Before You Show Up

  • Spanish helps but is not required for most programs — especially animal shelters and English teaching placements.
  • Most organizations welcome drop-in volunteers. Bring a small donation on your first visit to show you are serious.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water and sunscreen for any outdoor program, including farm work and beach cleanups.
  • If you cannot volunteer in person, many organizations accept monetary donations through their websites or via Nequi transfers.
  • Some programs (Corporacion Oshun, IVHQ) issue certified volunteer hours for students and professionals needing documentation.
