Election Weekend Security Measures: Border Closures and Ley Seca
For the June 21, 2026 presidential runoff, Colombian authorities put public-order measures in place from 6pm on June 20 to 6am on June 22. Land and river border crossings were closed, and a nationwide alcohol sales ban (ley seca) was in effect.
These measures have now lifted. If you crossed a land border with Venezuela or Ecuador, or planned to buy alcohol that weekend, normal operations have resumed. The in-depth guide explains how ley seca and border closures work around Colombian elections.
